I'm a textile and fibre artist based in Aotearoa New Zealand, with a practice grounded in material exploration, process, and place. I completed my Master of Design at AUT in 2020, following my original training at Bradford University, England, in 1993.
Over the years, I’ve exhibited nationally and internationally, with recent highlights including the 2023 World of Threads Festival in Canada, International Fiber Arts XI in California, and winning the Supreme Award at Changing Threads: Contemporary Textile Fibre Art Award in Nelson. Most recently, I was honoured to receive the 2025 Dalgleish Architects Excellence Award at the Sarjeant Gallery, Whanganui.
My textile pieces are not depictions of the landscape, but responses to it. They absorb its rhythms and hold its traces. Each work becomes a conversation between body, material, and place. Through layered fabric and stitch, I register presence rather than illustrate it.
2014 Bernina National Award, ‘Changing Threads’, Nelson Arts Council
2023 Supreme winner, ‘Changing Threads’, Nelson Arts Council
2025 Winner of the Dalgleish Architects Excellence Award, 2025 Pattillo Whanganui Arts Review, The Sarjeant Gallery
My work draws on the textures, colours, and patterns of the natural world, particularly the wild, weathered landscapes of the west coast where I live. I use traditional textile techniques like hand and machine stitching, but often pair them with less conventional materials such as biomaterials, laser cutting, or 3D printing. This allows me to explore new possibilities in fibre, bridging the familiar with the unexpected.
At the heart of my practice is a desire to create tactile, sensory experiences that invite a closer look and reflection. I’m interested in how textiles can carry memory, register place, and speak quietly but powerfully through surface and form.
