mixed media, felt, stitch and 3D printing on acrylic felt and tulle
1000 mm x 800 mm
From the summit rocks of Aoraki Mt Cook to the pavement underfoot, lichens mark geological time. These miniature ecosystems, partnerships between fungi and algae, survive in extreme environments, yet are highly sensitive to air pollution. As natural biomonitors, their slow growth and quiet resilience contrast sharply with the speed and excess of human production.
This mixed media textile work draws from the delicate structures of lichen found on black scoria rocks across Aotearoa. It combines 3D-printed motifs with hand and machine stitching on felt and tulle.
